SCS review panel announces Medicine Hat town hall

Aug 22, 2019 | 2:50 PM

Medicine Hat, AB – The provincial government’s panel to review supervised consumption sites will hear the thoughts of residents this fall.

Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Jason Laun announced Monday that the province had assembled the panel of eight to review the social and economic impacts the sites leave on communities.

The panel has taken some criticism for not reviewing the harm reduction impacts.

As part of the review process, the panel will be visiting communities for town hall events.

They will be in Medicine Hat on Tuesday, September 3rd at 6 p.m. at the HomeStay Inn and Suites on 7th Street SW.

The panel has also scheduled dates for Lethbridge and Red Deer with pending sessions in Grande Prairie, Edmonton, and Calgary.

Albertans will also be able to provide feedback through an online survey if they cannot attend in person.

The government says the panel will be making its recommendations at the end of the year.
