CEREAL, AB – RCMP say that the investigation following the multi-vehicle collision near Cereal Tuesday afternoon will take several weeks.

Corporal Laurel Scott, media relations officer with the RCMP, says that the collision analyst was able to conduct a scene examination Tuesday night.

She says that is only just the beginning to a very complex investigation.

“There is evidence to be gathered at the scene. And that’s evidence, driving evidence. And that’s by way of marks on the road, etcetera. There’s evidence to be gathered from the vehicles. Often times there will be a mechanical inspection done on the vehicle.” She said.

Scott says that officials will also need to gather witnesses statements.

“In fact, I understand that some people have come forward to Oyen with dashcam video. And so, in this case, there will be a lot of statements to take. Whether it’s from the people involved in the crash or witnesses.”

Crews are continuing to clear the collision scene on Highway 9 at Range Road 72, which remains closed.
