Seven Persons, AB – Alberta Open Farm Days returned to the region on Saturday with Seven Persons Premium Sausage playing host to tours and samples of locally produced products.

Medicine Hat Brewing Company, who was also in Seven Persons for the event Saturday, has been working with Premium Sausage in a number of ways, said the craft brewer’s JoLynn Parenteau.

The brewery provides its spent wheat and barley for feed for livestock with the company’s restaurant seeing that product come back by way of pork and beef products from Premium Sausuage.

It’s a circle of regional food production which Parenteau says is gaining in popularity.

“I think people love to support local,” she said.

Tourism Medicine Hat’s Abby Czibere echoed the sentiment saying events like Open Farm Days, Sunshine Skillet and Savour the Southeast, “all flows into culinary tourism.”

Premium Sausage owner Mark Penner said there used to be a time when products came with a “Made in Alberta” label.

“Made in Alberta makes a difference,” he said.

Open Farm Days events around Medicine Hat wrapped up Saturday but Spragg’s Meat Shop and Farm will be welcoming visitors Sunday. A full listing of Open Farm Days events happening in the province can be found by visiting the official website.
