MEDICINE HAT, AB — A new tour celebrating Medicine Hat’s Indigenous history is coming to the city on August 18.

The Miywasin Friendship Centre in partnership with Tourism Medicine Hat and Community Futures Entre-Corp Business Development is presenting the tour.

The tour begins at the Saamis Teepee, where an Indigenous/Métis guide will explain the hand-painted illustrated storyboards about First Nations heritage.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to explore the Saamis Archaeological Site below the teepee.

From there, the tour visits Saratoga Park, where several Métis families settles to build their homes in the early 1900’s.

The tour ends back at Miywasin, where an elder will teach attendees how to cook traditional Indigenous foods such as Bannock with chokecherry jam.

The tour guides will also discuss their life experiences, as Indigenous people taught the traditional way of living.

The tour runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, and costs $95. Visit their event for more information.
