Moose Recreation Centre to open early with Kinplex construction delayed

Medicine Hat, AB – All summer long the Kinplex has been under construction, expected to be opened by August 31.

With construction on the kin one side sitting hitting a delay, they won’t be opening the doors as expected though.

“The replacement of this important infrastructure has proven to show some difficulty and in spite of everyone’s best efforts to anticipate problems, an unexpected delay has developed. The City of Medicine Hat, the consultant, and the contractor are working together to implement a solution.” The city said in a statement.

Construction was started in June to replace the arena boards and ice surface slab.

As well on the kin one, they have reconfigured where the players bench will be.

With fall activities getting set to start in just a few weeks, the city’s recreation manager Dave Young says that they have decided to open up the Moose Complex earlier than planned to take on those extra ice times.

“It’s always a challenge when you take on a project that you obviously don’t know all the hidden things. And when you’re doing a renovation like this, things can come up.” Young said. “And unfortunately you just hope that you have the plans in place to accommodate them. And we’ve been lucky that we’ve been able to do that.”

The city says that the kin two side will be able to host games and practices, including for the Medicine Hat Cubs, as scheduled.
