Medicine Hat, AB – A major focus for the city of Medicine Hat this year has been replacing aging infrastructure.

Starting Monday the 19th they will begin work downtown to replace an aging sewer line.

A block of 6th Avenue SE near the downtown bus terminal will be shut off to traffic.

Crews will be working on replacing a three metre long section of sewer between 3rd Street SE and 4th Street SE.

The city says that they will be working on lining sewer lines this year, to avoid having to rip up streets.

The city’s manager of Engineering, Stan Nowakowski says that couldn’t be done for this stretch though.

“This particular area, we’re anticipating to do sewer lining later on this year. So this is a spot repair that we’re going to do in a short section that needs to be replaced. That couldn’t be lined.” He said.

Sidewalk and businesses will remain open will full water and services.
