MEDICINE HAT, AB — The final numbers are in, and a new record has been set.

The Mason Close Memorial Slo-Pitch Tournament raised $34,285 for the Strikeout Stigma, breaking last year’s amount by more than $2,000.

Bringing hundreds of ball players from across the western prairies for a special weekend, the tournament has developed into one of Medicine Hat’s largest fundraisers of the summer.

To date, more than $66,000 has been raised over the last two years, all of which going back into the community. The Strikeout Stigma aims to help those struggling with mental illness related to sport, especially the youth in Medicine Hat.

Organizers say more than 350 participants took the field at the Moose Ball Complex last Saturday and Sunday, matching last year’s rate. However, this year’s event welcomed more spectators who braved wet conditions to support the cause.
