Aug 7, 2019 | 3:57 PM

DRUMHELLER, AB — RCMP have charged two men with first-degree murder in connection with the death of an inmate earlier this week at the Drumheller Institution.

Jason Tremblay, 42, died on Sunday at the prison. He was serving a 57 month sentence on drug trafficking charges which stemmed from an incident in Medicine Hat in 2014.

At 7:34 p.m., Drumheller RCMP were called to a complaint of a stabbing at the prison. Tremblay was taken to hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

An autopsy completed on Tuesday confirmed Tremblay died from stab wounds.

RCMP have charged Giovanni Alexis, 24 and Richard Paul, 23, with first degree murder in connection with Tremblay’s death.

Alexis and Paul are both inmates in Drumheller, according to RCMP.

A court date has not yet been set.
