Province ups oil production limits for September

Jul 26, 2019 | 4:27 PM

EDMONTON, AB — The province announced an increase to the oil production limit for September.

According to a news release from the government Friday afternoon, production limits for the month of September will be raised to 3.76 million barrels per day, up from 3.74 million in August.

The province says the increase reflects “increased movement of crude by rail, declining inventory and improved efficiencies in export pipelines,” according to a release.

Oil curtailment came into effect under the previous NDP government in January in a response to an oil price differential.

The first 10,000 barrels per day a company produces are exempt from the production limits, the province says, noting that only 29 oil producers in Alberta are subject to the production limits. There are more than 300 oil producers in Alberta.

In July, the production limit was 3.71 million barrels per day.
