MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Cubs are entering a new era this season.

Monday evening, the team unveiled its new look jerseys for the coming season, and named Tavin Stadnicki as the captain for the coming year.

“Quinten Karg was our captain for the last three years, and he did a great job and left some big shoes to fill,” said Stadnicki, who is among the older players on the team. “But, I’m excited for the challenge.

Karg is the only player from last season who is not returning due to graduating from the program, and Stadnicki says he has learned lots from the former captain.

“I sat behind him for the last two years in the dressing room, and he taught me a pile,” he said. “Not even telling me anything, just the way he acts and talks to the team, he’s very good at it.”

While the roster boasts a number of returning players, several members of the Midget AA team are joining as rookies. Brandon Hauck and Carson Dingwall, who won a provincial championship with the team, were both introduced at the event Monday night.

“I think with the younger guys, we’re going to be a lot faster, and definitely going to bring that winning mentality into the club, and just hopefully learn from the older guys, and be a young fast team out there,” said Dingwall.

The Cubs also tweaked the coaching staff, noting J.D. Gaetan and Steve Liepert will be co-coaches for the team this season.
