Tax relief available for livestock producers

Jul 22, 2019 | 5:32 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Livestock producers being hit hard by ongoing drought conditions will be getting some relief from the federal government.

Tax relief under the Livestock Tax Deferral Provision was announced on Monday.

The program allows farmers who sell part of their breeding herd due to drought or flooding in prescribed regions to defer a portion of their sale proceeds to the following year.

Cypress County, Lethbridge County, Vulcan County, Cardston and Newell are among the Alberta communities where producers can access the relief.

It can be requested when 2019 tax returns are filed.

A full list of eligible regions can be found here.
