In the decade since Trevor Biemans lost his father to Lou Gehrig’s Disease, the family spread just south of Seven Persons has become host to “The Greatest Outdoor Party on Dirt.” This year will be no different as Quonset Days returns starting on Friday.

“The first Quonset Days was formed in maybe a month’s time,” said Biemans as the final touches were put on the venue located next to the family home Thursday morning. “We had $8,500 raised for the ALS Society of Alberta and about 150 people onsite.”

Since then, the country music festival attendance has grown to over a thousand with bigger acts and increased sponsorship, according to Biemans.

“Quonset Days was started as a tribute to my father – Peter Biemans – who unfortunately died of ALS in 2009,” said Biemans, adding that due to some time constraint issues, an ALS fundraiser was struggling to be held in 2010. “So we decided we’re going to do something different than the walks and the runs and the golf tournaments that take place and Quonset Days was born.”

This year’s line up continues to build on the ever-growing weekend festival with Emerson Drive headlining Friday night with The Washboard Union wrapping up Saturday evening.
