MEDICINE HAT, AB — The City of Medicine Hat is looking to develop a centralized location to allow more people to play pickleball.

According to a news release sent Tuesday morning, the city is hosting a public engagement session on Wednesday at the Strathcona Centre Gymnasium to gather feedback on a proposal to create a designated pickleball facility in Medicine Hat.

The racquet sport has grown in popularity in recent years, and games currently occur at Lions Park on the tennis courts. Portable pickleball nets are set yp and taken down daily for play.

The city say the tennis courts in the park need to be resurfaced, and they’re considering expanding and transitioning the courts into a designated pickleball facility. The city says the court conversion could see eight dedicated pickleball courts at Lions Park.
