BROOKS, AB – Two people remain in hospital after the truck they were travelling in collided with a train outside of Brooks on Friday night.

According to Brooks RCMP, they were called out to an uncontrolled railway crossed near the Brooks Aqueduct at around 6:30 pm on Friday along with Brooks Fire, EMS, and CP Rail Police.

They say a 2008 GMC Sierra pickup truck was found at the scene badly damaged after attempting to cross the tracks before colliding with the train.

Brooks Fire was able to extricate two people from inside the truck, with the 21-year-old driver from Bassano being taken to Brooks Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injures.

The 17-year-old female passenger from Brooks was originally taken to Brooks Hospital by ground ambulance, but was later airlifted to the Foothills Medicial Centre in Calgary by STARS Air Ambulance.

Her condition was originally listed as critical, but she has since been upgrade to stable condition.

CP Rail Police have since taken over the investigation and there is no word yet on a cause of the crash.
