Fire extinguished at Redcliff Industries; cause under investigation

REDCLIFF, AB – Fire broke out in a quonset hut behind the production plant at Redcliff Industries in Redcliff on Friday night.

According to Charity Schweitzer with the town, the local Fire Department received a call at 7:46 pm and went to the scene. Box Springs Fire Department offered back up soon after.

Dozens of onlookers watched from the street as fire crews extinguished the blaze in just under three hours.

Schweitzer added the fire was contained to the quonset hut and there were no injuries associated with the fire.

On Saturday, parent company CertainTeed Insulation released a statement related to the blaze.

Last evening, the CertainTeed Insulation facility in Redcliff, Alberta, experienced a fire in the duct of the forming area of the plant, which is utilized during the manufacture of the insulation. The fire resulted in equipment and structural damage of the plant. No employees were injured. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and the plant is currently not operating at this time. We thank the local fire department and other first responders who assisted at our site.

The cause has not yet been determined and there is no word yet on estimated damage.
