First inning:

The first run of the game was walked in. Lethbridge loaded the bases with one out and Jaymon Cervantes tossed four straight balls towards Ashton Roy following a foul to allow Grant Kerry to score. On the next at-bat, Dylan Borman reached home off fielder’s choice, and Riley Jepson scored to make it 2-0.

Medicine Hat quickly responded in the bottom half after Sal Rodriguez helped bring home PJ Garcia. This was Rodriguez’ first at-bat since hitting a three-run homer in an 8-2 victory over the Okotoks Dawgs the previous night.

Second inning:

Medicine Hat took its first lead of the game at 3-2 after Austin Sojka connected on a two-RBI double with two out.

Fifth inning:

Kaleb Warden, who has the third highest batting average at .407, connected on his eight home run of the season. The two-run shot helped the Bulls retake its one-run lead at 5-4.

Sixth inning:

This see-saw battle continued with three more runs for the home team. The Mavs first three batters each reached base, and Colton Wright followed up with a sac-fly to bring in Sal Rodriguez.

On the next at-bat, Collin Klingensmith hit a deep shot to center-field. After a few bobbles by the Bulls infield, Nolan Rattai made his way home from second base. The third and final run of the frame came from Klingensmith after stealing second. Freddy Walker hit an RBI single which also gave the infielders trouble and allowed Klingensmith to score.

Seventh inning:

With the bases loaded and one out, Dylan Borman caused the Mavs to sweat. The Camrose-native came up just a few paces short of a grand-slam, but instead, scored Grant Kelly’s third run of the contest to cut Medicine Hat’s lead to 6-5.

Eighth inning:

The Medicine Hat Mavericks sub-out reliever Derek Eubanks for all-star Flynn Ridley.

Medicine Hat’s offense continued to fire in the bottom half of the eighth. With Tito Jones and Colton Wright on third and second respectively, Freddy Walker struck a deep shot into the right corner of the outfield.

Jones and Wright both scored to give the Mavericks some breathing room at 8-5.
