ACHESON, AB — Becky Martin knew her best was yet to come, despite sitting tied for the lead at the Alberta Women’s Amateur Championship.

It all came together in the final round, with rain splashing down from above, at The Ranch Golf Club on Thursday.

Martin carded a jaw-dropping 67, complete with five birdies, to handily win the provincial tournament by seven strokes at +1.

The hardware doesn’t end there, though. Martin has also won the Alberta Mid-Amateur Championship, which coincides with the amateur tournament and is reserved for players age 25 and over.

Glendale Golf Club’s Kylie Barros finished second with a final round 73 and +8 for the tournament, and MacKenzie Baustad of Canyon Meadows rounded out the top three at +9.

Baustad sat tied with Martin for the lead, alongside Pinebrook’s Taylor Stone, heading into Thursday’s final round at +5.

It’s the first time a Medicine Hat golfer has won a provincial amateur event in city history.

The two-time ACAC champion channelled her success as a MHC Rattler, opening the round with a three-under 32 on the front nine.

The 26-year-old continued her hot round with birdies at 11 and 15, with her only bogey coming on the 16th hole.

Martin, a CCAA silver medalist, has earned one of three spots on Alberta’s Inter-Provincial Team, and will represent her home province at the 2019 Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship in Red Deer from July 26-29.
