Upgrades to irrigation system to begin at Ross Glen Linear Park

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The City of Medicine Hat’s Parks and Recreation department is beginning an upgrade of the irrigation system in Ross Glen Linear Park.

The work is scheduled to get underway on Monday and will be completed in three phases.

“There’s the irrigation upgrade, there’s a shrub bed removal portion of the project, as well as an inner park drainage solution,” said Jamie McLeod with the city’s parks and recreation department.

The work will not have any impact on the Ross Glen Waterpark, McLeod says, noting it will be focused around the parkland and trails between Cameron Road and Ross Glen Drive Southeast.

He adds the irrigation system needs to be replaced due to age.

“The vintage of the existing irrigation system is approximately 45 years old, so it’s reached its expected lifespan,” he said.

Barricades will be in place, and McLeod is reminding residents that they need to give workers space to complete their work.

“People are always, I guess, a little bit disrupted by construction, but in order to keep the irrigation system reliable, and the trees and the turf in good healthy order, it needs to be replaced,” he said.

McLeod says the project is expected to be finished by the end of September.
