Maxime Bernier in Medicine Hat on July 12

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The leader of the People’s Party of Canada is coming to Medicine Hat next week.

Maxime Bernier will be meeting with supporters and party members at the Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club on Friday, July 12.

A meet and greet will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., with Bernier scheduled to address supporters at 9:30 a.m.

Bernier will then travel to Cardston and the Blood Reserve for events in the evening.

Bernier has been involved in federal politics since 2006, since he was first elected as Member of Parliament for Beauce with the Conservative Party of Canada.

He ran for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada in 2017, but was defeated in the final round of leadership voting by Andrew Scheer.

Bernier left the Conservative Party in 2018 to form the People’s Party of Canada, which has riding associations in all 338 Canadian ridings.

Andrew Nelson has been named the candidate for Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner.

Bernier’s visit to Medicine Hat comes at the tail end of a tour through Alberta which begins Sunday in Calgary. He will be visiting Calgary, Fort McMurray, Edmonton, Sherwood Park, Ponoka, Grande Prairie, Red Deer, Cochrane and Airdrie, as well as take in the Calgary Stampede.

The tour aims to promote the party and introduce candidates heading into the fall election.
