Former Tiger Ennis signs one-year deal with Ottawa Senators

OTTAWA, ON – Last summer former Medicine Hat Tiger Tyler Ennis found himself as the NHL’s most recent buyout victim, looking for a chance to revive his career.

After a bounce-back season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Ennis has earned another chance at being an everyday threat at the NHL level.

On Monday, the Ottawa Senators signed the 29-year-old to a one-year, $800,000 contract to stay in Ontario next season.

“Tyler brings speed, skill and experience on the ice and he’s a leader with great work habits,” said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion in a statement.

Coming off his buyout with the Minnesota Wild, Ennis had 12 goals and 18 points in a fourth-line role in 51 games with the Maple Leafs last season.

Ennis won’t be alone switching Ontario colours however, as the Senators also signed Toronto defenceman Ron Hainsey and made a six-player trade involving Leafs Nikita Zaitsev and Connor Brown.

A four-year player with the Tigers between 2005 and 2009, Ennis had 115 goals and 236 points in 245 games and won a WHL championship with Medicine Hat in 2007.
