MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Tigers have selected a forward from Denmark in the Canadian Hockey League import draft Thursday morning.

The Tigers drafted Jonathan Brinkman Andersen 34th overall in the draft, according to a release from the team. He was their only import pick this year.

“There’s a lot to like about him,” said Bobby Fox, director of player personel with the Tigers. “He has good energy, he has good quickness, he can turn on a dime. A real strong puck skill, like he can protect the puck along the boards. And he’s got offensive instincts, he’s creative, he’s elusive in traffic. He’s going to bring the offence.

“We see him as a power play guy, a top six guy with a lot of offensive immigration.”

Brinkman Andersen is from Aalborg, the same city as current Tigers goaltender Mads Søgaard .

Brinkman Andersen played 32 games for the Aalborg Pirates last season, recording six points (one goal, five assists). He also has experience as a member of Denmark’s National Team, playing with Søgaard  at the World Junior Hockey Championship this past winter.

Last Season, Brinkman Andersen won a bronze medal with the U18 team at the IIHF U18 Division 1World Championship.

According to a news release, the Tigers are expecting Brinkman Andersen to report to Main Training Camp at the end of the summer.
