Youths charged after tires damaged in Crescent Heights

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat Police have charged three youth with mischief in connection with multiple damaged vehicles in Crescent Heights earlier this month.

On June 4, police responded to multiple reports of damage to vehicle tires in the city’s North East and North West, where multiple vehicles had their tires stabbed and damaged. Police estimated the total value of the damage was $4,500.

“Vehicle tire slashing is not something that’s typically common for Medicine Hat,” said Acting S/Sgt Brian Bohrn. “Vehicle mischiefs themselves do tend to increase during the summer months just with more people being out and about, later in the evenings in the warm weather.”

On Friday, police charged three youths under the age of 18 with 13 counts of mischief under $5,000.

The trio cannot be named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act. They’re scheduled to appear in Provincial Youth Justice Court this summer.

“Our investigating officers are going to be in touch with [victims] to complete documents called restitution forms,” said Bohrn. “Which is a form that they can fill out detailing the specific amount of damage they suffered, that’s then forwarded onto the courts for their consideration.
