Man charged following motel standoff going to trial in August

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A man charged following a standoff with police at a city motel last month will be going to trial in August.

Kayl Libke, 40, has pleaded not guilty to charges of break and enter, uttering threats, criminal harassment and three counts of disobeying a court order in Medicine Hat provincial court.

Libke was arrested on May 29 following a brief standoff at the Ace Crown Motel on 14th Street Southwest. Police received a tip a man wanted on several criminal offences was located in one of the rooms. The Tactical Team and the police service’s armoured vehicle were called in to respond.

According to court check, he will be heading to trial in Medicine Hat on August 16 at provincial court.
