MEDICINE HAT, AB — Seeding in southern Alberta is almost complete.

According to the most recent crop report released by the province, southern Alberta, which includes Lethbridge and Medicine Hat, has seeded 95.1 per cent of its major crops for the 2019 growing season, the highest of each region in the province

The Central Alberta region, which includes Airdrie and Oyen, is second, with 93.2 per cent, while northeastern Alberta has seeded 92.2 per cent of its major crops. The North West Region, which includes Edmonton, has seeded 86.2 per cent of its crops, while the Peace region has completed 80.5 per cent of its seeding.

The report says “relatively good weather conditions” have been helping the seeding process move quickly.

According to the report, soil moisture in Alberta is rated at 12 per cent poor, 28 per cent fair, 52 per cent good, 8 per cent excellent and 1 per cent excessive.

“In terms of moisture, compared to the short and long-term normals, in general more fields across the province are in poor or fair condition,” the report reads.
