MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat firefighters responded to a house fire in Riverside Tuesday evening.

Fire crews were called to a home on Third Street Northeast at approximately 7 p.m., after the owners of the home reported a fire.

According to Platoon Chief Lance Purcell, the fire was brought under control quickly. There were no injuries reported.

Members of the Medicine Hat Police Service were called in to help contain the scene and allow firefighters to work to extinguish the fire.

Investigators say the cause of the fire was a result of spontaneous combustion of oily rags, which were being used for a renovation.
