Local MP calls for changes around notifying victims families

Getting updates on the person put behind bars for harming their child has proven difficult for some parents and families over the last few months.

The outcry has some members of parliament calling for changes.

“I think it’s only the right thing to do, to have family aware.” says Glen Motz, MP for Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner.

Lorraine Campbell says she was never notified of the early release of her daughter’s killer, Jessie Dyck.

In addition, Rodney Stafford didn’t find out about the transfer of his daughter’s murderer until 9 months after the fact.

Terri-Lynn McClintic was transferred to a Maple Creek Healing Lodge, a situation now under review.

Motz says family members deserve to stay in the know in these situations.

“That pain never goes away,” says Motz. “It’s only appropriate that they are informed in the process.”

McClintic’s transfer is currently under review after being criticized by the Conservative Party.
