Hat’s Chapdelaine crowned McClennan Ross Tour Champion
PONOKA, AB — Medicine Hat’s Mathieu Chapdelaine weathered the elements at Wolf Creek Golf and Country Club on Monday, carding an exceptional round of 75 to win the McClennan Ross Tour Championship by a single stroke.
The 18-year-old was one of two Connaught Golf Club members to tee off in the windy, blustery conditions. Michael Grose of the Gas City finished 16th in his age category with a round of 83.
Through much of the front nine, Chapdelaine appeared anything but a front-runner, opening his first six holes at seven-over par. The local product regained control of his round with style, finishing his final 12 holes at -2 to sneak by three others who shot 76.
Both Hatters earned spots to play in the Tour Championship by qualifying at a previous junior tour event.
