Brooks businessman to seek UCP nomination for Brooks-Medicine Hat

BROOKS, AB — A Brooks businessman is the latest person seeking the United Conservative Party nomination in the region.

S. Todd Beasley announced Tuesday he intends to seek the nomination for the Brooks-Medicine Hat riding.

“I’ve never been more concerned about where we’re at, both in Alberta and within Canada,” he said on Tuesday. “It’s absolutely fired me up over the last few years to advocate and frankly, get off my behind and get out and work hard for a better society.”

“I see we’re making enormous mistakes with respect to political decisions that are driven by ideology, rather than looking at what’s important for society.”

Beasley, who founded Canadian Chemical Reclaiming Technologies, has spent the last nine months leading the Albertans for Affordable Electricity campaign, which is critical of the provincial government’s plans for renewable energy and the phasing out of coal plants. He has also spoken out against the province’s carbon tax.

Beasley says his experience in business and industry sets him apart as a candidate.

“I believe that we are going to have significant challenges at the next election cycle, and we’re going to need experience in government that can go ahead and help chart a path that will get this province back on track,” he said.

“Fundamentally, what it comes down to is this: The Alberta Advantage is about a heart beat away from being lost, and never to come back. If we don’t put the proper procedures, the proper policies in place to ensure our prosperity, shame on us. I want to do my very best to try and bring my experience, bring my passion and bring my work ethic to government in an attempt to do our very best to leave opportunity to our children and grandchildren.”

Beasley will be in Medicine Hat Thursday afternoon at the Cypress Club starting at 1:30 p.m. More information can be found on his Facebook page.

In addition to Beasley, Michaela Glasgo is also seeking the UCP nomination for Brooks-Medicine Hat. In Cypress-Medicine Hat, MLA Drew Barnes has said he will seek re-election in 2019.
