MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Police Service are reminding residents to education themselves and be aware of scammers throughout the month of March.

March is Fraud Prevention Month across Canada, and the Medicine Hat Police Service will be hosting several events during the month to assist residents about how to recognize fraud and scams in their community.

During the Sunshine Home and Garden Show at the Cypress Centre this weekend, members of the Medicine Hat Police Service’s community safety unit will have a booth set up with information about scams that have been found both locally and nationally.

On March 12, the Major Crimes Section will be hosting a Merchant Fraud Awareness presentation in the police station’s community boardroom. The presentation runs from 7-9 p.m., and has no cost to attend and no need to pre-register.

Finally, on March 31, police will be hosting an E-Recycling event at REDI Bottle Depot. The event allows residents to recycle their electronics safely, including cellphones, hard drives and computers. The event runs from 10 a.m – 3 p.m.
