Dan Federkeil retires from CFL
CALGARY — A member of the Calgary Stampeders with Medicine Hat roots is hanging up the cleats.
Offensive lineman Dan Federkeil announced his retirement after five seasons with the Stampeders on Thursday.
“After giving the matter careful thought, I believe this is the right time for me to bring an end to my football career and move on to the next phase of my life,” said Federkeil in a statement posted on the CFL’s website. “John Hufnagel and the Stampeders gave me an opportunity to resume my career five years ago and for that, I will always be grateful.”
Federkeil, originally from Medicine Hat, played four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts from 2006-2009, and played with the Stampeders from 2013-2017. He is one of the few players to win both a Super Bowl (2006) and Grey Cup (2014).
