JBS Canada Centre staff and bystander save life of woman

BROOKS, AB — A quick-thinking bystander and staff at the JBS Canada Centre in Brooks  helped prevent a tragic situation Sunday afternoon.

According to a news release from the city, a female patron was pulled from the lap pool in the EID Aquatic Centre of the building at approximately 3 p.m. Sunday. The patron was unresponsive upon being removed from the water, and the bystander and staff began performing CPR.

When EMS arrived, the woman was breathing on her own, and was transported to Brooks Health Centre. The pool was closed for one hour following the incident.

The woman is expected to make a full recovery.

The City of Brooks will not be releasing anymore information about the incident, in order to respect the privacy of the victim on her family. 

The city thanked the bystander and staff who performed CPR, as well as the EMS who assisted with care of the patient.
