GAME NOTES: Tigers open 2018 with matinee tilt with Kootenay

CRANBROOK, B.C. – After closing out the 2017 calendar year with a historic win at home, the Medicine Hat Tigers will ring in the New Year in Cranbrook where they will face off against the Kootenay Ice.

The Tigers are currently sitting 1st in the Central Division with 42 points and the Ice are 2nd with 38 points.

These two teams have faced each other twice so far this season with the Orange and Black winning both meetings.

Tigers – Ryan Jevne has been putting on strong performances for the Orange and Black. With his speed and ability to handle the puck, Jevne is impactful every time he is on the ice. The 19-year-old Edmonton native has 3 goals and 3 assists against the Ice so far this season. Look for Jevne to help the Tabbies get on the scoreboard. Kootenay Ice – Cameron Hausinger has been heating up for the Ice. In their last game against the Edmonton Oil Kings, Hausinger scored and had an assist to extend his current point streak to 9 points in 6 games.

In his first year with the Orange and Black, Linus Nassen has been making a name for himself. Hailing from Sweden, Nassen has 21 points in 37 games with the Tigers. The Tabbies blue line also features the towering shut down defenceman Kristians Rubins. Rubins is the first Latvian born player to ever suit up for the Tigers and he has netted 2 goals and 11 assists so far this season.

Protecting the Paint:

The Tigers acquired 18-year-old netminder Jordan Hollett from the Regina Pats in the offseason. Hollett is a 6th round selection of the Ottawa Senators and currently is sporting a 12-8-1 record with a 3.31 GAA and a .900 SV% The Orange and Black also have veteran goaltender Michael Bullion. Bullion has a 8-7-1 record posting a .874 SV% and a 3.64 GAA.
