Monsignor McCoy High School honours top athletes

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Monsignor McCoy High School celebrated its top athletes Tuesday night.

The annual awards banquet saw several members of the Colts teams take home awards for their performance through the school year.

Jace Anton and Sierra Zukowski took him the Brad Jackie Memorial Award, which is handed out to multi-sport athletes at the school.

Anton was recognized for his strong season with the Colts football team and leading the boys basketball team in scoring during the season. Anton was also awarded MVP for senior boys basketball.

Zukowski helped lead the senior girls basketball team to a 3A provincial championship, while also competing in badminton provincials and played on the school’s golf team.

In football, Tegan Rogal was named MVP for the team, while Wryan Rose received the Spiritus Award. Ethan Patton Hankins took home rookie of the year honours.

For basketball, Cole Fandrick was named defensive player of the year, and Ethan Gripp was named Rookie of the Year.

On the senior girls side, Katelyn Rozdeba was named MVP, with Abby Larochelle selected as best defensive player.

In volleyball, Grace Porter and Mishaela Lanigan split the MVP award on the senior girls side. Cavan Kolody was named MVP for the boys volleyball team.

Madison Kane-Rissling and Quinn Halldorson were named outstanding athletes for track and field. Halldorson was also honoured as the MVP on the school’s cross country running team.
