MEDICINE HAT, AB—A pair of duelling pianos led to a windfall of fundraising dollars in April.

The third annual Duel It event was held towards the end of the month, during the evening of Saturday, April 22. According to Duel It co-founder Corrie Dale, the aim of the evening was to raise money the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride.

The money raised from the evening’s event would go towards the total amount raised by Corrie’s husband David, who is embarking on the bike ride across Canada in September.

Held at Medalta, Duel It had two pianists competing throughout the evening, as well as both a silent and live auction.

After raising $15,000 in 2015 and $13,000 in 2016, the Duel It take this year rose to it’s highest yet with $28,299 raised.

Corrie said she thought the piano players played a large role in getting the attendee’s involved, which led to more song requests.

“I think Medicine Hat was ready to have a really good time, and I think that people recognize there is something they can do to help with these children,” said Corrie.

As for the future, Corrie said she had already had inquiries regarding 2018’s event. While planning is still underway, she indicated that the next Duel It will be held on April 21, 2018.
