Tech Tip: Calendar reminders

June 9, 2017 - 10:57am

I’m sure we all know that your calendar can be used to set a reminder fifteen minutes before the event.  However, if you add the location of where you’re supposed to be, your phone will actually detect how long it will take you to get there, adjust for traffic, and remind you fifteen minutes before you need to leave.

Tech Tip: Unique tip

June 7, 2017 - 8:59am

Your cellphone can even tell you if your remote control batteries are alive or dead.  Open the camera app on your phone, and point the remote at your phone while pressing a button.  Digital camera’s can detect infrared light and on your screen you will be able to see if the batteries are dead or if something else is going wrong.

Tech Tip: Save on your data

June 6, 2017 - 10:05am

All new phones have a feature that is called Wi-Fi Assist or Smart Switch.  This feature will have your phone switch to using the data through the cell network if your Wi-Fi connection is poor.  Although this can be a great feature to help always have a consistent connection, it can also eat up a ton of data.  If you have lots of data on your plan, then leaving it on probably won’t hurt.  But if you only have a GB or two, make sure you turn it off within your Cellular Data settings.

Tech Tip: Just ask Siri

June 5, 2017 - 9:16am

Ever see a plane flying in the sky and wondered where that plane is headed?  Just ask Siri or Google  “what planes are above me right now” and she will narrow down based on your location what airplanes are flying overhead.

Tech Tip: Faster phone, save space

June 2, 2017 - 11:11am

From time to time it is advisable to clear the cache within your apps.  The cache is a good thing to have, as it is what enables your apps to remember recently typed info, or viewed websites, etc.  However, this data can build up over time and make the apps run slowly as well as take up space on your phones.  To clear this, on iPhone’s you’ll want to go into your app store, and at the bottom press the feature (star button) ten times in a row.  In Android’s, you can delete the cache in each specific app by going into your application manager.

Tech Tip: Phone running slowly?

May 31, 2017 - 11:34am

Make sure you’re closing your apps periodically.  Much like a computer, phones can multitask.  If you never close the apps it’s like leaving every program on your computer running all the time.  On iPhone’s you can double press the home button to bring up all your running apps, and swipe upwards on each app to close them. On Android’s, press the button that looks like two overlapping squares next to your home button, and hit close all to close all your apps.  This will still allow emails, weather, etc to come through so don’t worry about that.
