MEDICINE HAT, AB. – Hundreds of people came out to the Family Leisure Centre for the Humboldt Broncos Charity Fundraiser.

The afternoon began at 1:00pm with a family skate and silent auction. Skaters of all ages were able to take to the ice with family and friends as part of the event.

Nick Kush, is one of the organizers helping put on the event, he said the fundraiser their way to do something to make a positive impact.

“We’re such a hockey community,” he said. “We love the Tigers, we love the Cubs, everybody in this city has probably played hockey at one time, it’s just such a way to heal is through hockey.”

At 2:30pm 50 players took to the ice and fans fill the bleachers, Kush explained. He said today was a way for the community recognize the tragedy of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash and show we care.

“For this kind of event everybody can come together and say hey Humboldt we support you and we’re here for you,” he said.

Kush said they aren’t sure how much money will be raised through the event but the organizers plan to personally drive to Humboldt to deliver a final cheque to the team to use at their discretion. 

“This money is also going to go directly to Humboldt, when all is said and done,” he said. “We’re going to give the money and say whatever you feel is necessary with this money or where ever you want this to go that is your decision.”
