More than 60 roads closed in the County of 40 Mile due to flooding

FOREMOST, AB — The County of 40 Mile is continuing to deal with overland flooding in the region.

Stewart Payne, director of emergency management, says more than 60 roads in the county are closed as a precaution due to flooding, but the county has since re-opened seven roads.

“Our crews are also trying to open roads, to give access and free flow of traffic back online as quickly as we can,” he said Wednesday afternoon.

Three households have been displaced due to the flooding, says Payne while one household has returned. The county has not implemented any evacuation orders.

Crews have turned their attention to the Highway 61 corridor near Foremost, where flooding occurred Tuesday night. Berms have been set up along the highway and in the town to keep water away from businesses and residences. Payne says they expect peak flows during the evening.

Payne says he wants to thank the residents of the county for their patience and cooperation with crews during the flood situation.
