County warning residents about high creek levels

Apr 18, 2018 | 1:59 PM

CYPRESS COUNTY, AB — Cypress County is warning residents about potential flooding in low-lying areas starting on Wednesday.

While the county itself has not seen any overland flooding, tributaries from many neighbouring municipalities flow into Murray Reservoir and downstream creeks which flow into Cypress County.

The MD of Taber the County of 40 Mile and Lethbridge County have all experienced overland flooding this week, and the county expects the St. Mary’s River Irrigation District to release water down Seven Persons Creek to help mitigate flooding in the region. Water was scheduled to be released from Murray Lake Dam.

Residents are advised to stay away from creek banks and take precautions to move machinery and equipment out of flood zones if possible.
