Cypress County not expecting overland flooding

CYPRESS COUNTY, AB — Officials in Cypress County don’t expect overland flooding to be an issue this year.

There’s very little snow left in the county.

The weather has cooperated and John Belanger, director of emergency management, said the snow has melted at opportune times.

It’s a different story in the Cypress Hills area. Belanger said the snowpack there is expected to drain into Montana, instead of draining towards the county.

Belanger said Cypress County is in a very different situation compared to the County of Forty Mile and the Municipal District of Taber.

“We don’t have the same snow pillow as our neighbours are experiencing,” he said. “And we don’t expect that their situation will translate into water coming our way and creating any problems in Cypress County.”
