MEDICINE HAT, AB – Dominance from the Medicine Hat High Mohawks on Friday night as they opened the 2018 Southern Alberta High School Baseball League season with a convincing win.

The Mohawks dominated the Eagle Butte Talons 14-3 in their season opener, led by a trio of RBIs from Ethan Wagner.

Medicine Hat built up an 11-0 lead through the first four innings, including three innings of three runs or more.

Dane Weiss also drove in a pair of runs for the Mohawks, while starter Travis Small earned the win with eight strikeouts over four innings of work.

Although it was Medicine Hat High’s first league win of the season, the Mohawks also posted a 2-3 record at a tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina last week.

It’s an all-Medicine Hat matchup next for the Mohawks, as they head to Athletic Park on Tuesday to battle the Monsignor McCoy High Colts at 5:30 pm.

Meanwhile, a number of local teams are competing in a JV tournament this weekend in Medicine Hat with the JV Mohawks, Crescent Heights Vikings, Maple Creek Red Sox, and Foremost Falcons all in action.

The JV Mohawks face Maple Creek on Saturday morning before hosting Foremost at 4:00 pm at McCoy Field.

As for the Vikings, they face Maple Creek at 12:00 pm and Foremost at 2:00 pm.

The Saturday tournament wraps up with a 6:00 pm game between the Mohawks and Vikings, meeting for the first time this season at McCoy Field.
