MEDICINE HAT – Local Tim Hortons coffee shops are doing a fundraiser in support of the Humboldt Broncos.

On Friday the Broncos team bus collided with a semi truck on a highway in Saskatchewan while headed to a game.

There were 15 people killed including players, coaching staff, a play-by-play announcer and the team statistician.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority says 12 people remain in hospital, four injured in Friday’s bus crash remain in critical condition. Eight others are also still in hospital in either serious or stable condition.

Tim Hortons locations in Medicine Hat and Redcliff are offering a special ‘Humboldt Brocos Strong’ doughnut for one dollar, for a limited time.

All the proceeds will be donated to the Humboldt Broncos Hockey Club.

In a news release local restaurant owners, Marlies and Wally Wirzba, said they send their thoughts and prayers to the Humboldt Broncos, their families and the entire community impacted by this unimaginable tragedy.

The national Tim Hortons organization is apologizing for a “misunderstanding” after a Halifax-area franchisee reportedly sold doughnuts in the Humboldt Broncos’ colours without intending to donate the proceeds to the team.

The company says that the restaurant will, in fact, be donating all proceeds from sales of the doughnut to the hockey team.

Additionally, to help support those affected, Tim Hortons National is making a donation of $50,000 to the hockey club.
