Tigers draft pick Matechuk in “serious, but stable condition” following bus crash

TISDALE, SASK – A Humboldt Broncos defenceman who was drafted by the Medicine Hat Tigers three years ago remains in hospital following Friday’s bus crash.

According to the Regina Leader Post’s Mark Melynchuk, Layne Matechuk is in “serious, but stable condition.”

Melynchuk says the information came from Matechuk’s grandfather. Matechuk is currently in a coma with severe head and body injuries.

Matechuk, 18, was drafted 40th overall by the Medicine Hat Tigers in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft, after posting 38 points in 31 games with the Humboldt Bantam AA Broncos.

The Colonsay, Saskatchewan product has played in six WHL pre-season games with Medicine Hat over the last three years, posting two assists in that time.
