Unemployment rate in Medicine Hat drops in March: Statistics Canada

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat’s unemployment has dropped a full percentage point.

According to Statistics Canada, the unemployment rate for Medicine Hat in March was 7.5 per cent, down from 8.5 per cent in February.

The agency cautions against month to month comparisons, due to the small sample size.

March’s number, however, is slightly higher than it was one year ago, in which the unemployment rate say at 6.9 per cent.

Provincially, the unemployment rate for March was 6.3 per cent, down from 6.7 per cent in February. A total of 8,000 jobs were added in Alberta in March.

Nationally, 32,000 jobs were added last month, keeping the unemployment rate at 5.8 per cent.
