Three arrested after cocaine, handgun seized in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB — Two Medicine Hat men were arrested following an Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team investigation in Lethbridge.

Arthur Cranston, 58 and Guy Cranston, 56, both of Medicine Hat, were arrested on Wednesday alongside Justin Reid, 27, of Lethbridge after almost half a kilogram of cocaine and a handgun with a removed serial number was seized from a Lethbridge home. 

ALERT’s organized crime and gang team searched a vehicle and an apartment suite at Berkeley Place West on Wednesday. The apartment, ALERT alleges, was being used to convert cocaine into crack. Officers seized 474 grams of cocaine and 198 grams of a cocaine buffing agent were seized along with drug trafficking paraphernalia.

Police also seized a .32 calibre handgun and ammunition during their search. 

Reid was arrested while attempting to leave the apartment, according to ALERT.

Reid was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm knowing possession was unauthorized, possession of a prohibited firearm with readily accessible ammunition, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, and possession of a firearm with the serial number removed.

Arthur and Guy were both charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of proceeds of crime.

Reid is scheduled to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court today, while Arthur and Guy are both scheduled for April 5, also in Lethbridge Provincial Court.
