MEDICINE HAT, AB — Playoff hockey gets underway in Medicine Hat Friday night.

The Medicine Hat Tigers, who clinched the WHL Central Division banner for the second season in a row, take on the Brandon Wheat Kings in the Eastern Conference Quarter-Finals at the Canalta Centre. It’s the second year in a row the two teams have met in the opening round of the playoffs.

Last year, the Tigers swept the Wheat Kings in four games.

During the regular season, all four meetings between the two teams went to overtime, with the Wheat Kings winning three of of the four matches.

The Tigers will be without James Hamblin for the playoffs after he suffered several dislocations to his wrist during the final game of the season last week.

Tigers forward Mason Shaw, who missed the entire regular season with a torn ACL, is listed as week-to-week on the Medicine Hat Tiger’s website. Head coach Shaun Clouston remains hopeful the play-making veteran will return at some point during the opening series.

Medicine Hat will lean on netminder Jordan Hollett, who recently returned to the lineup after missing six weeks with a lower body injury.

The game begins tonight at 7:30 p.m. Bob Ridley will have the call on CHAT 94.5 FM.
