Medicine Hat Curling Club crowns Ladies Bonspiel champions

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Curling Club crowned another set of champions for the season this weekend.

The club wrapped up its 70th annual Ladies Bonspiel on Sunday, with Deb Lutz’s coming away with the victory in the “A” Final.

Lutz’s rink, which features Vicki Sjolie, Deb Hubich and Normal Lippert, defeated the rink of defending champion Holly Stroh 5-4 in the eighth end. According to information provided by the club, Lutz, who had the hammer, didn’t need to throw her final stone as Stroh narrowly missed a runback on her final shot.

In the “B” Championship, Celine Linfoot’s rink, which features Lorraine Hilgendorf, Ylonda Jordheim and Faye Nunweiler, defeated Gaylene Swift’s rink from Maple Creek in six ends.

The “C” Championship needed an extra end to decide the winner, with Tammy Foster’s rink victorious over Sheila Rumberg’s team. Foster’s rink including Shannon Norman, Launie Hagel and Judy Hill.

The club hosts the Oilmen’s Bonspiel, its final event of the season, starting Friday and running until Sunday.
