MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat College has announced the recipient of its Business Person of the Year Award for 2018.

Warren Vancuren, the owner and operator of the Medicine Hat Brewing Company, will be honoured at the Building Future Leaders dinner hosted by Medicine Hat College on March 28 at the Medicine Hat Lodge.

“There are a lot of well-known business leaders in our community, so to be nominated and selected was something that I didn’t expect,” Vancuren said in a statement. “My success is to be shared with all the people that have been part of my business team throughout the years – my various business partners and the great mentors who have worked with me.”

The event, which connects students at the college with business owners in the community, gives Vancuren the opportunity to share his story in business with the students at the dinner.

“Warren is an excellent mentor for our students because of his experience, entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to learn from mistakes,” said Karl Schwonik, associate dean of business at the college, in a statement. “Business is not always perfect and in speaking with Warren he, like most of us, has made mistakes along the way. During those times he has embraced opportunities and grown exponentially both personally and professionally.”

Last year, Perry and Chris Deering of Deerview Meats were honoured with the award.

Tickets for the event are available until Friday. More information on tickets can be found here. https://www.mhc.ab.ca/ConnectingStudents
