UPDATE: Police clear suspicious package scene, no threat to public

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat Police have cleared the scene following reports of a suspicious package found in the 400 block of 3rd Street SE.

Police say a call about a package came in at 11:21 am and police, EMS, and other first responders were on scene for a little over two hours before wrapping up their investigation just before 1:45 pm.

Businesses on either side were evacuated, while the public was asked to stay away from the area.

Police say the Explosive Demolitions Unit was called in to investigate the suspicious package. The specialized unit used an x-ray to inspect the contents of the package and deemed it as not suspicious shortly after.

Police would not say what the contents were but they have concluded their investigation.
