UPDATE: Approximately 20 cattle killed following Trans-Canada Highway collision near Brooks

BROOKS, AB — Brooks RCMP were kept busy Friday morning responding to multiple collisions on the Trans-Canada Highway.

Officers were called to a collision involving three semis at 8:30 a.m. One of the semis were hauling bales, while the other two were an empty tanker and an empty cattle liner. One person was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

While en route to the first collision, RCMP received reports of a second collision on the Highway at Range Road 150, near the JBS Meat Packing Plant. The collision saw a loaded cattle liner get hit by two semis. Three people were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Approximately 20 cattle were killed or had to be euthanized due to the collision. Several more cattle got loose and had to be rounded up.

RCMP also responded to another collision on the outskirts of Brooks on Highway 1 involving a semi and an SUV,. Nobody was injured.

Fog was a factor in all collisions, and the westbound lanes of the Trans Canada Highway were reduced to one lane for several hours.

Normal traffic flow resumed around 1:30 p.m.
