Man charged after property stolen from city building

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A Medicine Hat man is facing several charges after police allege he broke into a building at the city’s power plant and stole equipment.

According to the Medicine Hat Police Service, officers responded to a break and enter on Powerhouse Road on February 19. When they arrived, they found that tools used to join high voltage lines together were stolen from a building.

The tools, which have no use to the general public, have an estimated value of $39,000.

While police were investigating another matter on March 1, the Priority Street Crime Unit discovered some of the stolen property in a motel room in the 1100 block of First Street SW. A man was taken into custody and the room was secured for a search warrant. Almost all of the stolen property was recovered.

Wyatt Fuchs-Zeller, 22, has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and possession of break-in instruments. Fuchs-Zeller was released on bail with numerous conditions, and is scheduled to appear in court on March 14.
